Yesterday after Mel talked about her mentoring experience with a high school student, we discussed briefly the kinds of information that needs to be included in help requests to the community. Here is my initial draft list:
1. A concise description of the project/goals you are trying to accomplish.
2. A description of the specific nature of how you are stuck.
3. How long you have been working on the project, how often, and how much time you plan to dedicate to it ongoing. (this information is included to help the potential helpers decide whether to help you.
4. How you can be contacted, email, IRC (including when you are reachable, with time zone).
5. What else?
